Since I am a sucker for anything lip related, I recently picked up the new Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint and Lip Crayon. Available on tarte.com and sephora.com for the last couple of months, it was finally released in stores about a week ago. Coming in ten unique shades, the lip paints also have a coordinating lip crayon to match, so you can line your lips before applying the lip paint.
The names of the lip paints and lip crayons annoy me a bit, only because they are so “trendy”. You’ll see what I mean below. I will list the lip paint name first, followed by the corresponding lip crayon:
Namaste – Boho (nude)
Bae – Thirsty (red)
Frenemy – Squad (burgundy)
Lovespell – Magic Wand (pink)
Twerk – Turnt Up* (fuschia)
Yaassss – On Fleek* (lavender)
So Fetch – Amaze (pinky coral)
tbt- Latergram (mauve)
*These lip combos annoy me the most. Although, I did purchase the ‘Turnt Up’ Lip Crayon, lol!
The Tarteist Lip Paints have a velvet-like, creamy texture and they are very pigmented. From the first swipe, you get a bold pigment, thus requiring very little of the product. The lip paints also dry into a matte finish. This product works like a lip stain and is long lasting throughout the day.
When I wore the respective colors, I applied in the morning around 9 a.m. I even drank from a water bottle several times through out the day and the product maintained its color as the day wore on.
I purchased the Lip Paints in ‘Adorbs’ and ‘tbt’. I only purchased one lip crayon, and that was in the shade ‘Turnt Up’. ‘Adorbs’ is a hot pink, so I wanted the fuschia colored lip crayon to mute it down a bit. When wearing the lip crayon, I applied it first, then the lip paint. I did not get any feathering or ‘bleeding’ problem as the day wore on. The brand does mention that the lip crayon is meant to work like a primer, so perhaps that is why there was no noticeable feathering.
The lip paints smell like peppermint, which gives a nice aroma while you are applying them to your lips.
KAYLA’S FINAL THOUGHT
One great thing about the Tarte brand, is that none of their products contain parabens or mineral oil – nor a handful of other ingredients. You can check their website for the list of others, but essentially, Tarte is a “natural” brand. This is great news if you care about what ingredients you are putting in contact with your skin. I am not one of those bloggers that really cares about how “natural” a product is or isn’t. If that’s your thing, this may be a brand you want to look into.
My opinion? Save your money. The NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream is the exact same texture, plus they are long lasting. You can purchase three of the NYX products for the price of one of the lip paints. I will do a post later on comparing the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams to the Tarte Tarteist Lip Paints.
Have you tried any of the new Tarteist Lip Paints? Is there a shade you might be interested in trying? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.
